Extractives Sector Governance

We vigorously support constructive change in the extractive industry’s governance and business practices and ensure that there is adequate and significant public engagement in making minerals, oil and gas suitable for all, with minimum negative effects or harm and great benefits.

For extractive industry companies, getting stakeholder engagement right is a key element of securing a social license to operate. Governments and civil society organizations also have their own share of responsibilities to ensure communities are adequately consulted before decisions are made on extractive industry developments in particular regions.

We, therefore ensure that public consultation and other forms of community engagement represent a constructive dialogue between companies, communities and relevant government departments, and ensuring that this leads to positive environmental and social outcomes for local populations and broader society.
